Kansas City Chiefs TE Jody Fortson has had some of the worst injury luck during his time with the team.

During his breakout season in 2021, he suffered a torn Achilles that would end his season prematurely. In 2022, he dealt with elbow and quad injuries that would put a damper on his production and ability to stay on the field. In 2023, Fortson suffered a shoulder injury during training camp that would sideline him for the entire year. Now, Fortson will head to injured reserve again after suffering what appeared to be a serious right knee injury during the Las Vegas Raiders' onside kick during the Week 8 win.

According to our friend Pete Sweeney of Arrowhead Pride, KSHB-TV, and 810 Sports radio, Fortson will be placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move to make room for new Chiefs DE/LB Joshua Uche

Fortson has appeared in the last three games for Kansas City since first rejoining the team. He managed one reception for five yards on three targets, averaging around 13 offensive snaps per game.

The Chiefs had four tight ends on the 53-man roster ahead of Fortson's injury. The fact that they're set to replace Fortson's spot with Uche tells me that Brett Veach intends to roll with just three players (Travis Kelce, Noah Gray, and Jared Wiley) for now. If they feel it necessary, the team has TE Peyton Hendershot on the practice squad and can sign or elevate him to the 53-man roster via standard elevation.
