Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid provided his typical pre-practice injury update to kick off the practice week ahead of their season's second matchup with the Denver Broncos.
Surprisingly, only one player was scheduled to miss practice on Wednesday according to Reid. That player is missing practice because they had successful surgery to repair an injury on Tuesday.
"As far as the injuries go, really it's (just) Nick Bolton," Reid said. "He had surgery yesterday in Los Angeles. He'll be back here tomorrow."
Will Nick Bolton be placed on injured reserve
The oft-reported recovery timeline has Nick Bolton set to sit out upward of two months with his wrist injury. That'd almost guarantee his placement on injured reserve, yet Andy Reid was not yet willing to confirm that Bolton would be placed on the reserve list.
"(Brett) Veach is going through all of that now," Reid said. "So, I'll get you that information when he finalizes it. We'll see how it goes. The one positive was that he didn't have to have any metal put in there. So, that was a positive going forward, but we've got to just kind of check and see how things go here."
If Bolton is placed on IR, he'll be required to miss a minimum of four games before the Chiefs can designate him to return from injured reserve.
Justin Watson returns to practice
Everyone outside of Nick Bolton is expected to practice on Wednesday and that includes WR Justin Watson. Andy Reid confirmed that Watson would return to practice following his Week 6 elbow dislocation against the Denver Broncos on "Thursday Night Football." Expect a limited capacity practice for Watson on Wednesday.
It's unclear if Watson will be cleared to play in Week 8. Still, it's good to know that he's on the mend from his injury and tracking to get back earlier than the typical 4-6 week recovery time associated with elbow dislocations.
Check back later for the latest injury report from practice:
| Player | Injury | Participation |
|---|---|---|
LB Nick Bolton | Wrist | DNP |
S Mike Edwards | Elbow | FP |
RB Jerick McKinnon | Groin | FP |
WR Justin Watson | Elbow | FP |
KEY: DNP = Did not participate | LP = Limited participation | FP = Full participation | NIR = Not injury related
Observations:
- Justin Watson practiced in full on Wednesday. That puts him on track to play in Week 8 unless he suffers a setback.
