The Kansas City Chiefs’ offseason overhaul of the offensive coaching staff continues with confirmation that two more coaches will not return in 2026.

The Chiefs had already moved on from a handful of offensive coaches, with RBs coach Todd Pinkston and WRs coach Connor Embree among the most notable departures. Matt Nagy, of course, is a free agent after his contract lapsed, while the Chiefs are expected to hire Eric Bieniemy as offensive coordinator. The team has already replaced Embree with a three-time Super Bowl champion in Chad O’Shea.

With the latest batch of departures, the Chiefs are now up to five members of the offensive coaching staff who won’t return for the 2026 NFL season. How will the rest of the offensive coaching staff shape up after the latest departures? That all remains to be seen, but if the other moves are any indication, the Chiefs will look to bring in some experienced folks.

Mark DeLeone, Kevin Saxton won’t return to Chiefs HC Andy Reid’s staff in 2026

As confirmed by Kansas City Star columnist Sam McDowell, the Chiefs will not retain assistant RBs coach Mark DeLeone and offensive assistant Kevin Saxton for the 2026 NFL season.

The 2025 NFL season marked DeLeone’s second stint with the Chiefs and his first season coaching the offensive side of the ball as the team’s assistant RBs coach. DeLeone previously got his start with Kansas City in 2013 as a defensive quality control coach, working his way up to assistant linebackers coach in 2016 and inside linebackers coach in 2019.

DeLeone left the Chiefs’ organization in 2020, holding roles with the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Kansas Jayhawks, and Baltimore Ravens before returning to Kansas City in 2025. Look for him to potentially join John Harbaugh’s staff in New York.

Saxton joined the Chiefs’ coaching staff as an offensive assistant in 2023 after serving as Co-Offensive Coordinator and QBs coach for the Benedict Tigers. He had a pretty versatile role on the staff during his tenure in Kansas City, essentially serving as the personal assistant to Reid. He had his hands in many facets of Reid’s day-to-day.

As things stand, Joe Bleymaier (Passing Game Coordinator), David Girardi (QBs), Dan Williams (assistant QBs), Tom Melvin (TEs), and Andy Heck (OL) are the only offensive coaches that Reid has retained. There’s no telling whether the changes stop here or continue to shuffle things on the offensive side of the ball.
