It's postseason time for the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has made the playoffs in each of his seven seasons in the NFL. The upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins will mark his fifteenth career start in the playoffs, which already rivals some of the best players in NFL history.
It seems like every postseason game that Mahomes plays in, he has a chance to make history. Saturday's wild-card game against the Dolphins is no different. With a win against Miami, Mahomes will tie Pro Football Hall of Famers Peyton Manning and Joe Montana for the second-most home playoff wins by a starting quarterback all-time with 10. Only Tom Brady would have more, with a whopping 21 home playoff wins in his career.
Mahomes will have the opportunity to pass some other legendary quarterbacks in several different postseason categories.
Some of those milestones will require a deep playoff run, but he could reach a few within a game or two. However, at just 28 years old, Mahomes has a chance to shoot even further up in those categories fairly quickly. He could be second to only Brady in passing yards, touchdowns, and wins in a matter of years.
Mahomes is entering the 2023 postseason as one of six quarterbacks all-time to win multiple Super Bowl MVPs (Super Bowls LIV and LVII). In 14 career playoff starts, Mahomes is 11-3 with 4,084 passing yards (291.7 per game) and 35 touchdown passes with a 107.4 passer rating, the highest postseason rating ever among qualified quarterbacks.
