Will the Browns grant Myles Garrett’s trade request?

Just days after Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry sternly stated that there are no plans to trade the star defensive end, Garrett officially requested that the team trade him.

How we got here: Toward the end of the regular season, Garrett told reporters that he would like to stay with the Browns, but was not interested in going through another rebuild. He went on to say that if he didn’t feel as though the Browns were ready to win next year, he would have to do what’s best for his career. Apparently, Garrett has already determined that he is not on board with the direction of the team moving forward.

Garrett releases a statement: Here’s what Garrett had to say about his trade request:

“As a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl — and that goal fuels me today more than ever. My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fanbase of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man that I am today. While I've loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”

Will the Browns really trade Garrett? This could get ugly. Garrett and Cleveland’s front office are clearly on different pages, and both could dig in for a standoff. There’s still plenty of time for the Browns to present an offseason plan to Garrett that he can get behind, but they could also get an offer for him from another team which they can’t refuse. Regardless of how it plays out, we’re not likely close to seeing a resolution.

Where could Garrett end up should he get traded? Members of our A to Z Sports staff made cases for the following teams to make a run at acquiring Garrett: the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans.
