Former Chiefs S Tyrann Mathieu will participate in upcoming Week 1 game in Brazil as he transitions into post-playing career
The Honey Badger will be on-air.
We are just 17 days away from the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 1 regular season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil.
It will mark the second consecutive year that the NFL holds a game in São Paulo on the day after the NFL’s Thursday night season-opener. The Chiefs are officially the away team, so they didn’t have to sacrifice a home game at Arrowhead Stadium.
The matchup will air on YouTube, which will be the first-ever live NFL game for the streaming service. On Tuesday the on-air talent for both in the studio and in-game at Corinthians Arena was revealed, which will feature former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu.

Mathieu recently retired just before the beginning of training camp. It appears he’ll dip his toes in the world of media to kickoff his post-playing NFL career. Derek Carr also retired during the offseason and may be following in his brother David’s footsteps in becoming an analyst.
Eisen and Warner have called several games together for the NFL Network (which was recently acquired by ESPN). With the game airing on YouTube, it makes sense for Deestroying (real name Donald De La Haye) to be a part of the action, as his channel has a whopping 6.32 million subscribers. DE La Haye is a former kicker who has spent time in the UFL and CFL.
The Chiefs own a perfect 3-0 record playing internationally. In 2015 they routed the Detroit Lions 45-10 in London, then knocked off the Chargers 24-17 in Mexico City during the 2019 season. In 2023 K.C. beat the Miami Dolphins 21-14 in Frankfurt, Germany.
