Cam Ward shares how he's in awe of new teammate in latest vlog, thankful for what other Titans receivers can learn from him
Cam had the same reaction that everybody had at first
Calvin Ridley is the most impressive practice player I may have ever seen. I can’t name for you somebody who contends with what he brings to the practice field. His intensity is always dialed up to an 11. He doesn’t take reps off. He doesn’t gear down on that explosive, raw speed he still possesses. He embodies the idea of practicing like you play. It’s really something, when you get the chance to watch him work.
That’s been a topic of discussion amongst Titans media, coaches, and players ever since he first got to Tennessee in spring of 2024. And now his new QB has joined the club, in complete awe of what Ridley is like to work with. On Cam Ward’s YouTube channel, he posted an offseason training vlog from a day at the University of Miami facility. He spent the day working with his private QB coach and some of his teammates: TE Chig Okonkwo, WR Chimere Dike, WR Xavier Restrepo, and WR Elic Ayomanor.
After a throwing session, Ward hit the weight room and sounded off between reps about what it’s been like having a receiver of Calvin Ridley’s caliber in practice:
“That boy there: different. How he moves, everything. Now that I see what a receiver's supposed to be like, that's why I'm glad like Elic (Ayomanor), Chim (Dike), (Xavier Restrepo), Bryce (Oliver), all the guys in our room, I'm glad they’ve got him because I ain't never threw to no receiver like him, that moves like him, can cut like him. And that boy he ain’t selfish either. Like he wants the rookies, all of us, he wants us to do better than him because he going to get his one-on-ones.”
It’s not shocking this is how Cam feels about Ridley when you consider the other receivers he’s worked with recently. Everybody else in the Titans room that he named is a combination of green and/or lesser athletes compared to Ridley. And in college at Miami, Ward had his tight end go in the 2nd round, his running back in the 7th round, and all other pass catchers go undrafted. None of his college receivers were deemed draftable athletes by the league.
So yea, Calvin Ridley probably feels like a Ferrari to Cam Ward. If you’re interested in reading what to expect from that duo, click here for a full breakdown.
