Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith recently made a bold statement about the Michigan Wolverines, promising that he will not lose the Buckeyes’ biggest rivalry game.

“I’m not a sore loser, but I hate losing—and losing to that team up north was pretty crazy,” Smith said, via The Athletic. “In the end, I think it really helped us play the way we did in the playoffs. But I didn’t come to Ohio State to lose to that team up north. I just hate them. There’s just something about them. For the next two years, I promise you, I will not lose to them. I can’t lose to them in the next two years.”

Now that a few days have passed since Smith made those comments, a Michigan recruit is responding with a similar message—this time aimed at the Buckeyes.

Michigan CB commit Dorian Barney has a message for the Ohio State Buckeyes

Over the weekend, the Wolverines landed a four-star commitment from CB Dorian Barney out of Carrollton (GA). And Barney already has the Buckeyes on his mind.

“I will not lose to Ohio State while I’m there,” Barney told On3’s Chad Simmons.

Ohio State and Michigan face off every November, but the rivalry talk never sleeps. New players entering each program are expected to embrace the rivalry—and fans love it when they do. Barney’s statement comes just days after Smith and seemed to fire up Michigan fans.

Of course, neither side wants to lose this historic matchup. The Buckeyes have lost four straight to the Wolverines. Smith has vowed he won’t lose to them again—and with two more opportunities, we’ll see if he can back that up.
