ESPN names Byron Young the biggest surprise player from the Rams' OTAs

OLB Byron Young
The 2023 third-round pick has had two strong seasons, amassing 15.5 sacks in his NFL career. But despite that success, outside linebackers coach Joe Coniglio said he has noticed how "intentional" Young has been going into his third season. Coniglio said he challenged Young to continue to work on his "consistency," because "when he's at his best, it's a lot of fun to watch."
"I think he's going to take another step forward in regards to his game, his ability to affect games, his ability to disrupt offenses and be the player that he's capable of being," Coniglio said. — Sarah Barshop– ESPN's Biggest surprise player for all 32 teams from the offseason
The Rams drafted Byron Young in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Since then, he has started in 32 games and recorded 15.5 sacks. Jared Verse gets all the love for what he brought to the Rams' defensive line, but Young has the chance to take that next step and be a 1b to Verse's 1a instead of being looked at as the second fiddle. A strong showing in OTAs is the first checked box for him to do just that; next up is for him to build off of it and have an even stronger training camp later this month. He will be a fun player to watch this season to see if he is able to make that leap into being a bona fide star for the Rams going forward, and that starts with him being more consistent on a week-to-week basis.
