One of the Tennessee Vols' big offseason additions was Vanderbilt Commodores transfer forward Jaylen Carey.

Carey, who started his career at James Madison, transferred to Tennessee after spending one season with the Commodores. His older brother, Vernon Carey Jr, played college basketball at Duke in 2019-20 under then head coach Mike Krzyzewski.

The Florida native met with reporters at Tennessee on Monday and he took a playful shot at Coach K.

"I just knew I wanted to be a part of something special going into my junior year," said Carey when asked about his decision to transfer to Tennessee. "When I was in my Zoom with Coach (Rick) Barnes, I committed in my Zoom. After my Zoom (with Barnes), I had other Zooms set up, but I knew I wanted to play for a legendary coach, someone I could call a GOAT. Better than Coach K, for sure."

Coach K is obviously one of the greatest coaches in all of sports. Barnes is great, and he's undoubtedly a Hall of Famer, but Coach K won five national championships at Duke (and Coach K won over 1,200 games in his career). There aren't many coaches that come close to that list of accomplishments.

Barnes, however, is still active, while Coach K is on the sidelines (Coach K is seven years older than Barnes). So maybe Carey is right that Barnes, at least in the present, is "for sure" better than Coach K.
