'He's become more than that' NFL executives finally admit they were wrong about Lions quarterback Jared Goff's game
I'm not going to lie to you, maybe this makes me look like a homer, but in my opinion, a lot of NFL analysts in the national media and some football fans stopped watching Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff in 2020 when he was in his last year with the Rams. These people are just […]
I'm not going to lie to you, maybe this makes me look like a homer, but in my opinion, a lot of NFL analysts in the national media and some football fans stopped watching Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff in 2020 when he was in his last year with the Rams.
These people are just so dang sure that this is the guy that he is and that he's a problem-filled quarterback who is guided by someone. He's always only good because of someone else and never because of himself. I think that's incredibly lazy and indictavite that they just don't pay attention to him.
That's not how people in the league see it anymore. Even though they might have at the time, too. On Monday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler got together with NFL Executives, coaches, and scouts to rank the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL. Goff came in at number eight.
"He's developed into one of the game's best pure passers," a veteran NFC defensive coach said. "He doesn't turn the ball over like he used to. He's a reliable quarterback with a real arm. He's not just a dropback passer who makes s— happen. He's become more than that."
Could those be Brian Flores' words? He has a lot of trouble with Goff these days. I don't know which coach said this, and there's a solid chance it's not Flores.
But those words are big because it's something you just don't hear a ton of at the moment. It's the understanding that at one point in time, he was that player, but he's not that guy anymore. Goff has proven to the league in the last three seasons that he is one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL.
Is he Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, or Lamar Jackson? No, he is not. But it's more than fair at this point to say that he's in the tier below them, and it's not on accident.
People in the league are seeing it. It's time some of these analysts and football fans take notice, too.

Remember back in your school days when the teacher would wheel in that cart with a 32-inch TV and VCR on it? Ok, maybe I just dated myself a little bit. Maybe now there's a flat screen with a streaming service on it. Either way, movie day in class is always awesome. Detroit Lions head […]
