Las Vegas Raiders should take a similar approach to the Green Bay Packers of old when it comes to a 2025 NFL Draft strategy

The Las Vegas Raiders got their quarterback in Geno Smith. The former Seattle Seahawks QB is set to try and bring the Raiders back to glory. But, he realistically only has about three years to do it, as that's the length of his new contract extension.
And the Raiders may want to be prepared for the future. They may want a backup plan for if this Geno Smith plan doesn't work out as well or as long as they originally hoped for. They can do that by either hoping Aidan O'Connell develops more as a backup behind Smith or drafting someone in the 2025 NFL Draft, regardless of whether the Raiders signed Smith to an extension now.
With O'Connell, the Raiders have a guy who has started some football games in his career now, and has had some success in a few of those games. O'Connell has shown good accuracy and a great connection with Tre Tucker on the deep ball. So, that option, not only would be a smart one because they know what they have, but because it would save them a draft pick.
If they decided to go another route and draft a QB, it won't be early in the draft. If they do, it will likely be on Day 3. There is absolutely no reason for them to waste a draft pick on a QB in the first round, when that pick is supposed to be the guy that immediately helps win football games as a rookie.
If they do that, it will be a Day 3 guy who is a bit younger with a high ceiling. Guys like Will Howard, who knows Chip Kelly's offense, or Kyle McCord, who is projected to be a Day 3 guy but led Division 1 in passing yards.
So that begs the question: Should the Raiders pull what the Green Bay Packers did when they drafted Jordan Love? Now, no, they shouldn't take a first-round QB like GB did, but they should draft a QB when they have theirs already, and sit him behind Smith, like GB did with Aaron Rodgers, for a few years.
Look how that's worked out for the Packers — they are one of the youngest teams in the league and are set for a bright future, as they made the playoffs last season.
The Raiders should certainly do what their NFC foe once did.
Geno Smith is already making an impression on the Las Vegas Raiders’ new additions and he hasn’t even played a snap yet
That’s how it’s supposed to be.
