Pittsburgh Steelers sure up overlooked offensive position following sudden re-signing of veteran contributor
The swing tackle is seldom talked about in football. Sure its not flashy, as offensive linemen who start, much less the sixth man, just don't generate a ton of interest. The swing tackle is seldom talked about in football.
Sure its not flashy, as offensive linemen who start, much less the sixth man, just don't generate a ton of interest.
But you're always a turned ankle away from watching your offensive line crumble if you don't have a suitable swing tackle.
The Steelers no longer have to worry about that…
Steelers re-sign OT Calvin Anderson
The Steelers signed offensive lineman Calvin Anderson to a two-year contract.
Anderson was signed by the Steelers during the 2024 season and appeared in four games, but finished the regular season on the Reserve/Injured List. He was activated and appeared in the Steelers Wild Card Game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Anderson, who was originally signed by the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft, has appeared in 50 career games, starting 14. He spent time with the Patriots and New York Jets, before being signed to the Denver Broncos 53-man roster in 2019.

The move to sign Anderson to a two-year deal opposed to a one-year deal proves that the Steelers view him as a semi long term answer as their sixth man. Sure they could dedicate draft capital or rely on versatile pieces like Spencer Anderson (lot of Anderson's in that OL room) but they know what they have in Calvin Anderson.
A two-year contract for Anderson heavily implies he will be the swing tackle to me. He has started 14 games in his career, and has played right and left tackle. He played 29 snaps in the team's WC loss against the Ravens and allowed just one pressure in 25 pass blocking reps.
