That created one clear winner and one clear loser for the Steelers after round one…

Steelers' biggest winner after round one: Aaron Rodgers

I know, how does a player who has yet to even sign a contract in Pittsburgh come away as a winner? Simple, he remains the Steelers best option in 2025. When Pittsburgh passed on Sanders and Jaxson Dart, they inadvertently told Rodgers the job was his.

Or, as we learned in the hours after the draft, perhaps they already knew it would be his job before the first pick was ever made…

I'm told the Steelers communicated with Aaron Rodgers at the beginning of the week that they would like to receive an answer from him before the Draft (at least 48 hours), per league source. Steelers know the outcome of that conversation…

The Steelers had been far too complacent prior to the draft to think Rodgers wasn't coming, and after passing on two QBs they met with multiple times, it must be a forgone conclusion inside the walls of the UPMC complex.

Steelers biggest loser after round one: George Pickens

The Steelers were rumored to be heavily interested in trading back in the draft, and according to Steelers GM Omar Khan in his presser after round one, it was indeed under serious consideration from the Steelers brass.

But they didn't, and now they head into their sweetspot of the draft, day two, with only one pick, at 83rd overall. Not acquiring that draft capital via a trade back could lead the Steelers to move off George Pickens, but only if the price is right.

Sources say that they would be shocked if Pickens was dealt for less than a Day two pick. If the best offer is a fourth-rounder, the Steelers could just keep Pickens for the last year of his rookie contract, and see if a camp injury or mid-season need pops up around the trade deadline—worst-case scenario for Pittsburgh, they could be in line to receive a compensatory pick if he leaves in free agency next offseason.

It would take the right deal, but don't rule it out.
