The New England Patriots' decision with the No. 4 overall pick relies on what happens with those three teams in front of them. And the biggest question surrounds the New York Giants.
At the start of the offseason, the Giants were in need of a quarterback. But, they looked towards some veterans. First they signed Jameis Winston followed by Russell Wilson in free agency.
Before, many thought that New York might target Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the No. 3 overall pick. However, these two moves had many thinking that they would go in a different direction.
And based on the comments from Giants general manager Joe Schoen on Wednesday, it seems that they have made their mind up as it concerns to the quarterback position and that first round pick.
“With the signing of those two players I think we put ourself in a position where I don’t think that’s mandatory or something that we’re — our feet are to the fire, and we have to do,” Schoen said. “I think the two guys we signed have played a lot of ball. They’ve got a lot of skins on the wall.
If the Giants went the quarterback route, then that would have left either Colorado wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter or Penn State edge Abdul Carter available for New England. But if not, the Patriots had a harder decision at hand.
Do they take a tackle with the No. 4 overall pick? Do they try and trade down? Do they take a defensive player? Do they take an offensive player?
So many options in a draft that New England can't afford to get wrong.
So with Schoen's comments, the Patriots have to ask all these questions again and make a plan for when they are officially on the clock. But luckily, they still have just over a week before it all begins.
