Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes spoke to the media in Allen Park on Thursday morning, and the topic of the big trade-up the Lions did in 202,2 when they moved from the 32nd pick to the 12th pick to get Jameson Williams.

There's been some thought that, with the way the Lions roster is constructed right now, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to give up a good bulk of their picks to move up and grab one of the best players in the draft and maybe someone who can have a drastic and immediate impact on the Lions in 2025.

While talking about that trade-up for Williams, Holmes made a comment that suggested that this is something that could be possible.

That's interesting to learn. Apparently, the Lions have attempted to make the big move up the draft board on different occasions outside of the 2022 NFL Draft. You have to wonder if maybe that was last year, since Terrion Arnold was initially expected to go somewhere in the upper teens before the NFL got shocked by 14 straight offensive players going and pushing Arnold down to a more strikeable spot.

Either way, that comment at least shows that there's at least a willingness to make some phone calls and see what you can do. That, of course, doesn't mean this is the Lions' prime directive in this draft. It just means you can't rule it out as a possibility.

What would it cost to do it? The trade that you can always look back to that most fits what the Lions would have to do is the Chiefs' move from 27 to 10 to get Patrick Mahomes in 2017. Here's what the full deal looked like:

Chiefs got: 10th pick
Bills got: 27th pick, 91st pick and a 2018 first-round pick

So there you go. It's really not that bad when you consider what the Lions could get in return. If they were able to score Mykel Williams, Shemar Stewart, Tetairoa McMillan, Armand Membou, Jihaad Campbell, or Will Campbell, that's a bit of a game-changing moment, isn't it? We'll see what happens soon.
