The 2025 NFL Draft is just over a week away, and the one thing on every Detroit Lions fan's mind is who is going to be there for the Lions with the 28th pick? We might be able to answer that with math.
There have been hundreds and hundreds of mock drafts since the 2024 season ended. Our draft and data team here at A to Z Sports, headed up by Travis May, created a mock draft database in which every mock draft is tracked and accounted for to the point where we can look at each player and deduce an average draft position based on all that data compiled.
Using that metric, here are some of the players that are mathematically expected to be in the Lions' range at 28.
Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon
Harmon has been mocked to the Lions quite a bit, and you can see why with the versatility he can bring to the table. Harmon can play inside and outside and can rush the passer and stop the run. He had 55 pressures and five sacks for the Ducks last year.
Harmon is our 26th-ranked prospect in this draft. He has an average draft position of 28.24.
Matthew Golden, WR, Texas
Here's a guy who got talked about a lot this week in Detroit. Texas receiver Matthew Golden is one of the top receivers in this draft. Our team has him ranked as the fourth-best receiver behind Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan, Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka, and Missouri's Luther Burden.
He's our 30th-ranked player in this draft. He has an average draft position of 29.80.
Nic Scourton, edge, Texas A&M
Scourton is someone I like a lot because he's just 20 years old. To me, that signifies the possibility of a long-term player who could get a second and maybe even a third contract with Detroit. He had 36 pressures and four sacks last year. The surface hasn't been scratched for him yet.
He's our 32nd-ranked prospect in this draft. He has an average draft position of 30.91.
Josh Conerly, OT, Oregon
It seems like the Lions might have a few different plans at guard, so that's why you start thinking about tackles. Someone has to replace Taylor Decker at some point. Conerly has been a starting left tackle for the last two seasons, and he's allowed a total of 26 pressures and two sacks.
He's our 33rd-ranked prospect in this draft. He has an average draft position of 32.34.
Grey Zabel, OL, North Dakota State
A pretty popular choice for guys to get mocked to the Lions. The goal here for Zabel would be that he would play guard until Frank Ragnow retires, and then you move him to center. In five seasons at NDSU, he allowed a combined 29 pressures and four sacks.
He's our 37th-ranked prospect. He has an average draft position of 38.64.
Donovan Jackson, OL, Ohio State
Here's a guy who can be a guard or a tackle. He did both for the Buckeyes. He's more expected to be a guard in the NFL, but you have to love that versatility. He allowed 12 pressures and two sacks as a left tackle last year. 10 pressures and one sack as a left guard the year before.
He's our 37th-ranked prospect in this draft. He has an average draft position of 42.74.
Donovan Ezeiruaku, Edge, Boston College
Another guy who's been a popular choice for the Lions at 28. You can see why when you look at his production last year. He had 60 pressures and 14 sacks. People are dying to put him opposite Aidan Hutchinson.
He's our 38th-ranked prospect in this draft. He has an average draft position of 43.45.
