The battle between Ohio State and Michigan has been trending in the Wolverines' favor for almost a half-decade.
After the Buckeyes dominated the rivalry for most of Jim Tressel and Urban Meyer’s tenures, the Buckeyes have lost the last four games to Michigan. Though Ryan Day has a National Championship now, he still needs to get over the hump of beating the Wolverines.
Players from both teams simply hate each other, and that is engraved into the newcomers who step foot on both campuses. Some players get it more than others, and some learn along the way.
Michigan added OL Brady Norton from the transfer portal in the winter, a player the Buckeyes had some level of interest in. Norton already isn’t a fan of the Buckeyes without playing a down for the Wolverines.
"They called me in the hotel room of my visit here to offer me," Norton said of the Buckeyes. "They texted me before Michigan did really. And then just kind of ghosted me out of the blue, and all of a sudden when Michigan offered me, they wanted me now, so I kind of thought that a little odd. Then I just came here and I was like, yeah, it's home. F*** those guys, I don't care.”
That last sentence says it all and it’s one that will surely get back to Buckeyes players and coaches. Norton is a transfer from Cal Poly who is pushing for playing time as an offensive tackle with the Wolverines. Ohio State ended up landing two other offensive tackles that they were chasing harder with Phillip Daniels and Ethan Onianwa. Both of them are expected to start for the Buckeyes.
Norton is from California, so he doesn’t have any real feel of what the Ohio State and Michigan rivalry is. He knows his comments will stick well with Michigan fans and be eaten up by Ohio State fans. He knew what he was doing. The 6-foot-3, 275-pound offensive lineman will get his first crack at the Buckeyes in November.
