The 2025 NFL Draft is next week, and with that in mind, we're going to zero in on the 28th pick and profile some of the players that best fit the Detroit Lions at that pick. Here's who we've covered so far:

If there is one thing that Lions fans want more than anything, it's a premier edge rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson. It's hard to argue with that. Having two guys who can get after the quarterback can really change the way a game lays out. The question is, who can you get at 28 that can be the disruptor you're hoping for?

The answer is that you're more than likely looking for a guy who can disrupt a little at first, but then a lot more as time goes on. That's where we think Texas A&M's Nic Scourton can really be abig for the Lions at 28.

Make no mistake, this guy is not a long-term project in the vein of Brodic Martin or something like that. Scourton is ready to start playing right now.

The way to best describe Scourton is to use a little story from one year on the track team in high school. I threw the discus. I was fairly decent at it, but I had no form whatsoever. The coach used to say I was just muscling it out there, but if I learned the form, it would go so much farther. I never did, by the way.

But you hope Scourton does. Right now, he's muscling it through, and he's a good enough player based on that. If he works on the form and gets things down with counter moves and stacking, he could be the premier guy that Lions fans would hope he could be.

That's just from the pass rusher side of things. As a run stopper, he might already have that figured out. He had 14 tackles for a loss in 2024 and had 15 the year before when he was in the Big Ten playing for Purdue.

The best thing about that is that he is still so young. Scourton is just 20 years old. He's a baby compared to some of the other edge rushers who are expected to go in the first round. But he's a strong baby. The youth is big because this is a player that can grow with Detroit and get that second contract and still be young. Maybe you look at a third deal with him.

The big thing that would attract the Lions to Scourton, outside of the potential for the future, is that the wrap on him is that he's a worker bee type of guy who just doesn't quit. That's a culture fit right there. The Lions love a player who has a strong work ethic.
