NASHVILLE — Tennessee Titans fans have been waiting for the 2025 NFL Draft since mid-October of last year. When your team bottoms out the way that Tennessee did last season, future transactions are much more appealing than the actual team.
And this draft week is all about the Titans, owner of the No. 1 overall pick.
Titans must fix the NFL's worst roster
The top choice is the most interesting, but Tennessee's seven other selections are almost as important.
Austin Mock of The Athletic recently ranked the Titans as the worst roster in professional football before the draft. While adding Miami quarterback Cam Ward with their first choice will help boost the talent profile in Nashville, there are needs at basically every position. Tennessee also lacks this year's third-round pick due to the 2024 trade for now-embattled starting corner L'Jarius Sneed.
New Tennessee general manager Mike Borgonzi will have to get creative.
Receivers and pass rush help are the team's most critical needs. Still, the Titans coaching staff believes they are significantly closer to fielding a competitive product than last year's 3-14 finish. Brian Callahan's first year on job after the team parted ways with now-New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel was plagued primarily by shockingly bad quarterback play from 2023 second-round pick Will Levis.
Levis' 18 individual turnovers helped tie Tennessee with the Cleveland Browns for league-worst total of 34.
Cutting down on the disaster plays would do wonders for the Titans ability to close out opponents. Callahan's team was 2-6 in one-score games last season. Tennessee also lost a whopping seven contests in 2024 by 10 or more points.
Borgonzi's personnel evaluation and acquisition strategies will be tested right away.
