It's time a different team in the AFC West to take down the Kansas City Chiefs and take the throne for the division. If you ask me, the Denver Broncos are the closest to doing that. Who knows, 2025 could be the year they get back to it.

The last time the Broncos won the division was in 2015, the year they won the Super Bowl. History tells us that the Los Angeles Chargers, the team that everyone picks to win the division every year, are never really ready to be the top team in the AFC West.

But before anyone can take the crown, you have to take down the Chiefs, who have won it nine times in a row. And, after getting dismantled in the Super Bowl by the Philadelphia Eagles, it may be the Broncos' best chance at taking their crown back. To do so, you would have to be able to contain Patrick Mahomes, who, I'm sure everyone agrees by now, is one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

But he does do some things that can really tick off opposing teams and fan bases. One of the most notable has to be the way he tiptoes on the sideline during a run because he knows everyone is too scared to hit him, as they would likely get a penalty.

If the Broncos are in a situation like that in 2025, a former All-Pro has some thoughts on what Denver should do.

“I dare one of those guys to hit him. Please. Somebody has to send a message in that game. You might get a penalty. We kind of used to send those messages," former No Fly Zone cornerback All-Pro Chris Harris Jr. said recently on the DNVR Broncos Podcast.

Last season, Mahomes did it felt like every single game. And, hey man, you can't blame him, because he's only doing what he knows will help him win. It's not cheating, it's just taking advantage of knowing that the refs will cater to a QB being hit in bounds by the sideline.

If Denver did that, sending a message that they aren't scared of him or any penalty that follows, he may stop doing it, and that may make him stop scrambling the way he does. When he starts scrambling like that, it usually results in a positive play. Making him scared to do that because he is scared of getting him, may make him pull up earlier.

Then again, this is Mahomes we are talking about here. Who's to say he wouldn't keep doing it so he could keep taking the extra yardage after the play due to the penalty? Either way, he and the Chiefs need to be stopped, and the Broncos are the next team up in the AFC West to do so.
