The Tennessee Vols are squarely in the mix for one of the top edge rusher recruits in the nation.

2027 four-star edge rusher Anthony Sweeney, 6-foot-4/215 lbs from Olney, Md., is rated by 247Sports as the No. 13 overall player in the nation. He's also rated as the No. 4 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 1 player in the state of Maryland.

Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, and USC are among the programs that are in hot pursuit of the talented edge rusher.

Tennessee offered Sweeney last fall and they're quickly building a solid relationship with the Maryland native.

"I talk to Tennessee a lot," said Sweeney to 247Sports this week. "That is the main one talking to me so far…I love the coaching, I love the facilities, I love the energy down there; everybody down there. It's like a family down there."

Sweeney visited Tennessee this past weekend.

This recruiting battle is in the early stages, but the Vols are undoubtedly a serious contender for the highly coveted edge rusher.

Sweeney, by the way, says distance won't be a factor in his final decision.
