Giants rookie QB Jaxson Dart signs rookie contract
The Giants have locked in their rookie quarterback. Jaxson Dart signed his fully-guaranteed four-year deal on Friday.
Giants QB Jaxson Dart has signed his fully guaranteed four-year, $16.954 contract, including a signing bonus of $8.97 million and a fifth-year option, per sources.
Dart has already proven to be wise beyond his years since being drafted by the G-Men. He's determined to help the team win games, no matter his role in that this season.
"Our sole focus as a quarterback room is to win games," said Dart when asked about sharing a quarterback room with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. "That's what we come to work every single day to do. We want to win. So, we all have the same focus. We have the same intent of what we're doing and how we're trying to handle it and make the team better. So obviously, you're competing. But you know, those guys, they've been in my shoes. They were rookies once, too. So they understand the growing pains."
New York can focus on other pieces to their offseason now. Inking Dart was a major task still on the table for their front office, and on the flip-side, Dart doesn't have to worry about his contract anymore, either. That's a great step forward for the rookie.
No unnecessary drama
If you look around the NFL, there's not a ton of drama regarding rookie deals this offseason, but the Cincinnati Bengals are dealing with a bit of it. Bengals rookie edge rusher Shemar Stewart hasn't practiced so far for Cincy, as his rookie contract remains unsigned.
It's not the value of the Stewart's contract that's in question, but the language that involves guaranteed money. The training-camp roster bonus problem has been put to the side while an issue of language that differs from contracts signed by the Bengals' previous first-round picks like Myles Murphy and Amarius Mims. — John Sheeran
As for Dart, he and his agent were able to carve out a deal with the organization that worked for both sides. They won't have any Stewart-like issues with their young quarterback.
