The Alabama Crimson Tide had one of the biggest wins in all of college football last season when they took down the Georgia Bulldogs in a thrilling late September matchup.
Alabama jumped out to a 28-0 lead, but the Bulldogs rallied in the second half to eventually take a 34-33 lead.
The Crimson Tide, however, went ahead for good thanks to wide receiver Ryan Williams' incredible 75-yard touchdown reception (truly one of the best plays I've ever seen) with 2:19 remaining in the game.
Alabama, perhaps due to an emotional hangover after the win against Georgia, had a letdown performance the following week, falling 40-35 to the Vanderbilt Commodores in Nashville.
That loss to Vanderbilt ultimately cost the Crimson Tide a spot in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
Williams (along with Bama teammate Isaiah Horton) joined Jon Gruden this week on Inside the FFCA and he was asked about the loss to Vanderbilt last season.
The sophomore wide receiver essentially put Vanderbilt on notice with his comments.
"They just played a better football game than us [in] this game," said Williams about the loss to Vandy last season. "We came out slow and they capitalized. They held the ball, they had their game plan, and they executed."
"Man, going into this game, we don't call them revenge games," added Williams when asked by Gruden what his message is to his teammates about the Vandy game in 2025. "We're gonna kill an ant with a sledgehammer this year. I mean, just every game we fell short [in] last year, we definitely got red eyes going into them [this season]."
Williams said that they don't call them revenge games at Alabama, but it certainly sounds like he and his teammates will be out for revenge on October 4 when Vanderbilt visits Tuscaloosa.
It also sounds like Williams and his teammates will be out for revenge against the Tennessee Vols and the Oklahoma Sooners (Bama's other regular season losses in 2024).
Tennessee travels to Tuscaloosa on October 18 for the historic Third Saturday in October showdown while Oklahoma will visit Alabama on November 15.
