Arch Manning has been one of the most intriguing players in college football for quite some time now. Even without a starting role, a lot of eyeballs have been on him – for good reason. Meanwhile LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier is also getting plenty of Heisman hype as well as attention for the 2026 NFL Draft.
Both will be incredibly vital to the playoff picture and their teams' success this season.
Arch Manning admires LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier
According to a recent report from Pete Nakos, the new starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns looks up two a fellow SEC QB in LSU's Garrett Nussmeier. Both are related to former NFL quarterbacks and have known each other for quite some time.
Manning has been waiting in the wings in Austin, behind Quinn Ewers. Now that Ewers has left for the pros, the young QB now has his shot at stardom for the Longhorns.
Arch Manning turned to Garrett Nussmeier for guidance in the last two years. Nussmeier has been around the Manning family since he was a kid, when his father, Doug, played with Peyton during his rookie year in Indianapolis.
Growing up in the state of Louisiana, Arch Manning and Nussmeier always knew of each other. But when Nussmeier first started attending the Manning Passing Academy as a counselor in 2023, Manning took note of the LSU quarterback.
“It’s cool having a guy like Nuss to look up to,” Manning said. “He kind of had the same situation as me, just sitting for a few years, then going to play, and he played well. I’ve watched a lot of his film. He’s a good player, so it’s fun to look up to him.”
Both Manning and Nussmeier are attending the Manning Passing Academy this weekend as mentors. Both are held in high regard for their physical and mental prowess.
LSU won't play Texas this season during the regular season. Both teams are widely predicted to make the College Football Playoff, though. With that, we could see Manning and Nussmeier go head to head when it matters most.
The Tigers are +125 to make the CFP, while the Longhorns are -350 – via DraftKings Sportsbook.
