If you would have told Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward six years ago that he was going to be the first overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft class, I doubt he would have believed you. Everyone knows the story of Ward at this point, going from Wing-T high school quarterback to one of the more unlikely high draft picks of all time.
With the status he has earned, and the remarkable story now a part of him, this has made Ward a role model for so many young kids who have similar struggles to get noticed. The talented signal caller is living proof that scholarship offers aren’t what ultimately defines you, talent and work ethic are.
Ward held a football camp for kids from his hometown back in San Antonio recently, hoping to be a crucial part of future success stories like himself. The Titans star rookie delivered a strong message to those participating following the event. It isn’t just about what they do, or don’t, accomplish on the field.

The kids that come out here, have good people working the camp, quarterback coach out here, it’s an honor. I just know they’re excited to get to come to the camp. They didn’t get an offer from me but they get to come out and do some 1-on-1s, play some 7-on-7, get to burn some calories, so they’re good.
I just want them to leave with that they have to work hard, especially being from a smaller town. You won’t get a lot of looks from the bigger schools. They just have to remember that they have to be a good person. At the end of the day, football is only going to be a second of your life. You have to be a good person. That’ll carry you a long way.
Someday, when everyone isn’t still hyper focusing on Shedeur Sanders falling to the fifth round anymore, we are going to sit back and truly marvel at the story of Cam Ward. With only one offer to his name from FCS Incarnate Word, and amidst the Covid chaos, he was able to take that one chance and turn it into two P4 opportunities, a whole lot of NIL money, and a bright NFL future.
If Ward becomes a tremendous player for the Titans, and one of the best in the NFL, his story will only continue to grow. Ward is the perfect example of perseverance, and taking advantage of unlikely opportunities in front of you. He has already made it a priority for the kids in similar situations to know that.
They are not defined by what others tell them they are, just like Ward was not defined by the outside noise during his stops in San Antonio, Pullman, Miami, and now Nashville.
