It's been a major topic of discussion over the last few weeks, including rumors of a potential hold in. It's become the common move for veterans to do, as they no longer have the ability to hold out from training camp without getting fined massive amounts of money.
Josh Metellus makes public comments about contract status
With mandatory minicamp upon us, Metellus could have chosen to skip the event, but instead chose to make it out because, as he puts it, he's a "football guy."
"That's part of the process right now," said Metellus when asked about limited participation in OTAs. "I mean, the coaches in front office, everybody understand, you know, situation I'm here. I'm building that chemistry my new teammates and the old teammates, and I'm here being the same guy I am all the time. So you guys know me. It ain't nothing change."
This shouldn't be much of a surprise coming from Metellus. He's a captain for the Vikings and continues to act like it across the board. What we don't know now is where things stand. Metellus was asked, but didn't oblige, keeping those details private.
"That's private, that's between, that's between Drew (Rosenhaus) and them boys upstairs. You know, I let Drew handle that, and they understand I'm a football guy first. So right now I'm focused on, you know, getting into the summer and finishing these last two days."
It's important that Metellus is here, as he said "we're here to learn" and "we're here to grow as teammates and build that chemistry." When will his contract get done? At this point, who knows? However, it's likely the number one priority for the Vikings' front office.
