The Arkansas Razorbacks have one task in mind when it comes to their baseball team right now. Win the whole, dang thing in Omaha, Nebraska. On Monday, they took a huge step towards that goal – thanks mostly to Gage Wood.

Gage Wood's no-hitter steals show

One of the most impressive outings in college baseball history happened on Monday afternoon. Arkansas Razorbacks RHP Gage Wood threw the third no-hitter in Men's College World Series history.

Wood struck out nineteen batters and was only a hit by pitch in the eighth inning away from a perfect game. That would have been the first perfect game in CWS history.

The Arkansas Razorbacks were able to slide past Murray State offensively, with just three runs on the game, while stranding multiple runners. But, on the defensive side of things, Gage Wood was unstoppable. They locked down the base paths, the plate, and maybe even Murray State's dugout based on what we saw on Monday.

The Hogs lost to LSU on Saturday and needed this win to stay alive in Omaha, and they stayed alive, only they did it in dramatic fashion. If the Razorbacks can get their bats and pitching going at the same time, and not only have one or the other, they are going to be the toughest team to stop. Sure, that's easier said than done, but you have to feel like eventually, it will happen. It's only a matter of time. There is no doubting that the momentum is clear and real for the Razorbacks following that victory and history from their pitcher. The emotion that's been around this team and staff has been incredibly cool to see.

A fresh bullpen for the Razorbacks

This advantage could make all of the difference for Dave Van Horn's team. DVH is trying to win his first national title as Arkansas' skipper, and the amount of arms available as they maneuver the loser's bracket may be vital.

In recent games, other teams have had to use multiple pitchers in order to get through and/or win games. Arkansas was able to ride their starter for all nine innings and keep one of the most talented bullpens remaining completely fresh.

It is fair to expect that all of the Razorback relievers will be available in the team's next match later this week.

Wood's performance will always live in college baseball history. It absolutely should. That being said, if it allows pristine pitching from the rest of the staff in the coming days to earn them a berth in the MCWS finals, it will be even greater in magnitude.
