The New England Patriots need a tackle and they got one.

NFL Network reports that the Patriots are signing former New York Jets tackle Morgan Moses to a 3-year, $24 million deal worth up to $28.5 million.

It is a fairly team-friendly deal, which is crucial as the Patriots look to add as many pieces as they can.

Moses was selected by the Washington Commanders in 2014, primarily playing at right tackle. He remained there until 2021 when he signed a 1-year deal with the Jets. Afterwards, he moved to the Baltimore Ravens on a three 3-year, $15 million deal, but was traded to the Jets last season for a fourth-round pick.

While he has switched over to the left side at times in his career, the majority of his experience is on the right.

A the right tackle position, the Patriots currently have Caedan Wallace and Demontry Jacobs, but this signing makes it very clear that the start spot is Moses'.

From the Jets side, this is a huge loss. The Jets will now have a huge to fill along their offensive line as they look to protect whoever will be playing quarterback. Moses is a fantastic locker room guy that will be missed along a very young Jets offensive line. With a weak right tackle market in free agency, the Jets might be forced to look to the draft to fill their hole on the right side of the line.

Moses was one of the more important players I have been urging the Jets to re-sign since last offseason. His toughness and locker room leadership are not easily replaced especially with a team that has so many question marks on the offensive side of the ball.

Moses was traded back to the Jets in a deal with the Baltimore Ravens last off season. The 34-year old was drafted by the Washington Commanders back in 2014. He spent 2021 with the Jets and then signed with the Ravens before returning to the Jets last year. Now he stays in the AFC East protecting Drake Maye and facing the Jets twice a year.

The Jets don’t have any obvious replacements on the roster for Moses. It’s likely that they will look to add someone to play RT soon. One other option is for the Jets to sign a guard and once again move Alijah Vera-Tucker to the outside to play tackle. The constant position shuffling and injuries have hampered AVT’s productivity after a fantastic start to his career.

The old regime promised to not to move AVT again, but with a new OC, head coach and GM, that promise might go out the window.

This is one of the bigger losses for the Jets because I believe they were counting on having him back to lead the young offensive line.
