The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with free agent safety Talanoa Hufanga on a three-year, $45 million contract with $20 million guaranteed, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Safety was an under-the-radar position of need for the Broncos heading into the offseason. Denver's pass defense was middling in 2024, ranking 19th by season's end. Hufanga will help solidify the Broncos' secondary and round out an already very good defensive unit.

2022 was Hufanga's last full season played, and he was selected to the Pro Bowl and as a First-Team All-Pro. That year he recorded 97 total tackles, four interceptions (one returned for a touchdown), nine passes defensed, two forced fumbles, two sacks, and five quarterback pressures.

Hufanga was off to another great start in 2023, but unfortunately tore his ACL in Week 11. That obviously cost him the rest of that season, plus the first 12 games of 2024. However, he picked up right where he left off in 2023 and played well for San Francisco in its final five games.

Hufanga has appeared in 49 games and made 37 starts throughout his four-year NFL career. Still just 26-years-old, he is in his prime and should provide the Broncos with an elite level of play during his time in Denver. Outside of the ACL tear, Hufanga doesn't have a history of getting injured.

This is a great first move for the Broncos to make, and more should be following soon. They are expected to be in the market for a playmaking wide receiver, and have already met with veteran free agent tight end Evan Engram. If Denver can round out its roster on the offensive side of the ball, it could make a real push to be a legitimate contender in 2025.
