The Philadelphia Eagles may be staying quiet at the start of NFL free agency, however, they are making moves in their quarterback room.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles are sending backup quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns.
The Eagles will receive fellow quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick from Cleveland.
"Trade: Eagles are trading QB Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns for a 2025 fifth-round pick and QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, per sources," Schefter wrote on X on Monday, March 10.
Thompson-Robinson, 25, is a former fifth-round pick out of UCLA by the Browns in the 2023 NFL Draft. He is set to enter his third year of a four-year, $4.2 million rookie contract. This past season, Thompson-Robinson appeared in seven games with two starts, completing 61 of 118 pass attempts (51.7 percent) for 440 yards, no touchdowns, and six interceptions. He also rushed 21 times for 122 yards.
As for Pickett, he had as solid a showing as Jalen Hurts' backup this past season, but the real winner of this trade is third-string quarterback Tanner McKee, who remains in Philly.
Pickett saw action in five games last season for the Birds, completing 25 of 42 passes for 291 yards with two touchdowns and one interception as QB No. 2.
Now, it's McKee who will likely step into the backup job this upcoming season.
McKee, the Eagles' former sixth-round pick in 2023, completed 30 of 45 passes for 323 yards with 4 touchdowns and no interceptions this past year.
Of course, McKee will need to compete with Thompson-Robinson throughout spring and summer training camp, but for now, things look promising with McKee moving up since the Eagles moved on from Pickett.
