The 2024 season was supposed to be the year when the Ohio State Buckeyes ended their three-game losing streak to the Michigan Wolverines. It wasn’t. Ohio State lost for the fourth straight time to a Michigan team that was much less talented this go around.

“We knew we were the underdogs but in our minds, we can play with any team,” Michigan star DT Mason Graham said at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday. “Obviously, we didn’t have the year, but every time we play those guys we’re going to bring our A game.”

Michigan won the defense battle at the end of November, 13-10, but that didn’t end Ohio State’s season like it has at times in the past. The Buckeyes regrouped and went on the best run that college football has ever seen in the first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff.

“I knew that they were probably one of the better teams, it hurts me to say that,” Graham admitted. “But I knew they were one of the better teams and had a shot if they got in there.”

Ohio State’s letdown against Michigan was a major red flag that had folks worried it may be a one-and-done in the CFP against Tennessee. The Buckeyes came out and rolled the doors off of Tennessee, then did the same to Oregon. Ohio State’s matchup with Texas was a bit closer, 28-14, but the Buckeyes held control of that one all the way. There was very little doubt from anyone that Ohio State wasn’t going to get the job done against Notre Dame.

Graham went 3-0 against Ohio State in his Michigan career and has never experienced losing to the Buckeyes like every other senior on their roster. Though the Buckeyes won the National Championship, that hump of beating Michigan is one that Ryan Day has struggled to get over.
