FOXBOROUGH – Milton Williams had a lot of suitors, but in the end, he landed in New England.
And with that, the Patriots rewarded him with the largest contract in franchise history, signing him to a four-year, $104 million deal. So, how does he feel making history in New England?
“That’s a blessing man. I just won a Super Bowl a couple whole weeks ago, so I thought that was the biggest day of my life," Milton told reporters during his introductory press conference on Thursday. "But this is probably gonna jump that, for sure. Being known as the highest average salary player (in Pats history), that’s big.”
“Being the highest average salary or whatever. That’s big,” Williams added. “Like I said, they believed in me. Obviously, they’ve studied me as a player and as a person. They know what I bring to the table – physicality, toughness, determination. I thrive on people telling me I can’t do something. So bring it on.”
The Patriots got a quick glance at Milton during joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles last summer. And the defensive tackle thinks that was when he caught Eliot Wolf's eye.
“I don’t like to just gloat or nothin’, but I was goin’ crazy,” Milton recalled when speaking on Patriots Unfiltered. “Once my agent told me [New England] was interested — I’m like, ‘They probably got that tape.’”
Milton was one of the top free agents available, and he landed in New England. The future is bright in Foxborough.
