ESPN says a former Tennessee Vols standout is receiving buzz as a "sleeper" free agent this offseason.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, there are some NFL teams that are intrigued by former Volunteers wide receiver Josh Palmer, who will be a free agent for the first time in his career when the new league year begins later this month.
"He's a buzzworthy name among some teams as a sleeper receiver," wrote Fowler in regards to Palmer.
Palmer, a third round selection by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2021 NFL Draft, just wrapped up his fourth season in the NFL.
The former Vol caught 39 passes for 584 yards and a touchdown in 15 games for the Chargers in 2024.
Palmer's best season in the NFL came in 2022 when he caught 72 passes for 769 yards and three touchdowns. For his career, Palmer has 182 receptions for 2,287 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Palmer isn't a player that's going to be leaned on as a No. 1 option in the passing game, but he's proven to be an dependable option in the NFL, so it's no surprise that he's already generating some interest ahead of his free agency.
The Ontario native played at Tennessee from 2017 to 2020 (some dark years for the UT program, outside of a stretch in 2019). Palmer caught 99 passes for 1,514 yards and seven touchdowns — while playing in some anemic offenses — during his four seasons with the Vols.
