Ohio State QB Will Howard may be trending toward unexpected waters thanks to what happened last week at the combine

The general feeling is that the discussion is wrapped up in terms of who will come off the board first at the quarterback position in April’s draft.
Miami QB Cam Ward is the heavy favorite to be the first quarterback drafted and that makes sense as he has the highest ceiling. Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders is a safer prospect but doesn’t have the high floor like Ward possesses.
With QB1 all but known, the discussion has turned to who will be the next quarterbacks off the board. Sanders feels like the front-runner to be the No. 2 and it gets murky after that.
Coming away from the NFL Scouting Combine that was held in Indianapolis last week, Ohio State QB Will Howard is gaining some steam. The National Championship winner has a chance to rise into the second or even first round.
“Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders are, of course, locks to go early in the draft, but after them, it seems to be a three-person race to be the third off the board. Ole Miss' Jaxson Dart, Alabama's Jalen Milroe, and Ohio State's Will Howard all have fans around the NFL and seem to be legitimately in play to hear their names called in the first round.” — Destin Adams, A to Z Sports
Quarterbacks often go earlier than expected due to it being the most important position in the sport. Jobs are lost in front offices every year for messing up at this position. Howard has some traits in his profile that make him an attractive selection in this draft. The 6-foot-4 quarterback has a prototypical frame of around 235 pounds and he is a strong leader. Those are all things that are looked at in a positive light.
At Ohio State, Howard cleared 4,000 yards passing with 35 touchdowns through the air and seven more on the ground. While he doesn’t have the biggest arm, he can stretch the ball around the field as needed. Tight window throws weren’t on display at Ohio State because they didn’t need to be. Being a quarterback who can make those consistently could end up being the make or break for Howard.
It may sound a bit wild at this time that a player like Howard would rise into the first round, but we see this happen every year with quarterbacks. In this class, teams may find the best value by going with the winner who proved his worth on the biggest stage.
