It's comical in retrospect, but in the weeks leading up to the Ohio State Buckeyes' historical run in the first ever 12-team College Football Playoff, there was a loud portion of the OSU fan base that wanted head coach Ryan Day fired.

That noise was the result of Ohio State's disappointing loss at home to the Michigan Wolverines in the regular-season finale.

The Buckeyes' win in the national championship game against Notre Dame has since quieted the noise around Day, but the reaction from Ohio State fans after the loss to Michigan is something that 2027 five-star quarterback Brady Edmunds noticed (and heard).

Edmunds, who committed to the Buckeyes shortly after the loss to Michigan, spoke to Rivals.com's Adam Gorney this past week about what it was like to be in Columbus after the loss to Michigan.

"Ohio State fans, they're different," said Edmunds, who attended the Michigan game. "When I was waiting to commit, we were just sitting down at a restaurant and they're just talking about Ryan Day, fire this, fire that. And we're like geez, I'm about to commit right now and we're like dang, alright. But I mean, I love Ohio State fans. It's different, but that's the good and the bad of Ohio State football."

Edmunds also made it clear while speaking with Gorney that he thinks Day is the best coach in college football.

"He's the best coach in college football, period," said Edmunds when asked about Day.

Every prestigious college football program has deeply passionate fans that includes pockets of fans who can be a bit extreme at times. Elite recruits like Edmunds recognize that. They understand that it's something that comes with playing for a top program like Ohio State. And those extreme fans clearly didn't have a negative impact on how Edmunds feels about Ohio State.

But still, Edmunds' comments are a reminder to Buckeyes fans that recruits see and hear everything.

Edmunds, 6-foot-5/215 lbs from Huntington Beach, CA, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 2 quarterback in the nation the No. 7 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.
