All you heard after the NFL Combine was that the Pittsburgh Steelers will not be taking a quarterback in round one of the NFL Draft.

And for the most part, when you consider the caliber of prospect available at 21, that makes a lot of sense given what happened the last time the Steelers reached for a signal caller in the first round.

Yet Dane Brugler of The Athletic gave the Steelers a signal caller, only he's who some believe to be the top QB in the draft.

Oh and they didn't even have to trade up to get him…

Steelers Select Shedeur Sanders at 21 in latest mock

Sanders is going to be a wild card in this draft. He could go in the top six or fall out of the first round entirely — and neither outcome would be a shock.

He is not a first-round quarterback for a lot of NFL teams, which isn’t a major surprise (and matches my evaluation). But all it takes is one front office to roll the dice on his skill set. If Sanders falls out of the top 10, this would be an interesting landing spot. The Steelers are searching for answers at the QB position.

I know this pick likely comes as a shock to many, but sources actually posed this exact scenario to A to Z Sports on Monday. If the Tennesse Titans trade their pick and the New York Giants select Cam Ward, there is a world where Sanders takes a long tumble down the board.

Not only does he have no elite trait, but let's just say he's not everyone's cup of tea. However, if Shedeur Sanders is anywhere in striking range of the Steelers, much less sitting there at 21 for Pittsburgh, they had better make a move.

His poise, toughness, and accuracy are his biggest assets, all of which play well in the AFC North and the NFL in general.

We also know that Mike Tomlin has no problem drafting and signing characters, and you don't have to squint to see a match between him and Sanders.

In all likelihood, Sanders is long gone by 21. But the resounding notion from people in and around the league is that Cam Ward is miles ahead in the QB race.

Pair that with many teams in odd states of transition, and there is a world where Sanders puts on Black and Gold in 2025.
