It's been made clear Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer has the support of his locker room despite being a controversial hire by the front office after parting ways with Mike McCarthy.

A classy gesture toward Osa Odighizuwa after the defensive tackle signed a four-year, $80 million contract shows exactly why that is. He's a good dude who cares for his players.

"We have the guy we want, the team, the locker room loves Schotty, and I think that's part of where it starts, and I believe he's a smart guy, and just the person that he is, he's a good dude," Odighizuwa told Kay Adams on her show Up & Adams. "He called me afterwards, (said) congratulations."

That's about as far as many NFL head coaches would go. Not Schottenheimer.

"Me and my family went to dinner, he found out where we went to dinner, and he sent me a little gift to, just the kind of care he has for us, and it's kind of a coach that you can run through a wall for," Osa added before revealing what the gift was. "Bottle of champagne."

You've got to respect Schottenheimer going full Sherlock Holmes to find out where Osa and his family were going to in the first place. And then to send a bottle of champagne to the guy who just signed an $80 million deal? It's not like Osa needed the money but it's the gesture that counts.

In all seriousness though, buying into Schottenheimer as head coach might be a challenge for Cowboys fans given his lack of experience. However, this is his calling card. He's a great leader the NFL world seems to respect tremendously, including Dan Quinn and Pete Carroll.

If you want a reason to buy into the Schotty era, that's the one. He can get the team behind him.
