Steelers' looming QB decision may have just taken a massive turn following unexpected trade request from superstar WR
If in two weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers haven't added a high-level veteran WR, it will be their own fault. If in two weeks, the Pittsburgh Steelers haven't added a high-level veteran WR, it will be their own fault.
An active week of releases, there are plenty of names set to hit the market ahead of March 10th's legal tampering period.
But on Wednesday, a trade request that flipped the entire WR market on its head emerged.
Oh, and said WR has a friendly history with Russell Wilson…
D.K. Metcalf requests trade from Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks star WR DK Metcalf has requested a trade from Seattle and the team has decided to explore it, per me and Tom Pelissero. There is likely to be significant interest in the Seattle star, and both sides will dig into it. A big-time WR who may be on the move.

Metcalf is only 27 years old and is one of the best WRs in the league. He is a vertical threat on the perimeter who pairs perfectly with Russell Wilson's moonball and willingness to throw outside the numbers.
Oh, and the two spent three seasons together in the Pacific Northwest, where Metcalf blossomed into one of the best WRs in the league, and Wilson continued to earn his way to Pro Bowls.
The issue here is that while the Steelers will 100% be in on trading for Metcalf, their preferred option at QB is Justin Fields, who obviously doesn't have the same familiarity with the star WR that Wilson does.
So this trade certainly throws a wrench in things. If Justin Fields drags his feet and wants to test free agency, the team will turn to option B: Signing Russell Wilson. A Metcalf trade could turn the tides in terms of who is back in Pittsburgh.
One of the hottest topics around the combine last week was what the Pittsburgh Steelers will do at QB for 2025. Both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are set to become free agents, and the team is only expected to attempt to retain one of the two. Nearly everyone in Indianapolis believes the team prefers to extend Fields and let Wilson walk. But they also think signing Fields to a new deal won't prevent the Steelers from doing their homework on the QBs in this year's draft class. It's not out of the question that the Steelers retain Fields and draft a QB with a valuable pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
