College football is set to enter an unprecedented era thanks to the incoming House settlement and many other changes that are shifting the landscape maybe forever. Revenue sharing will take center stage. Now more than ever, college football will resemble the NFL game as a free-agency style of business.
The Oklahoma Sooners are rising to meet this change by investing in building out a full-fledged NFL-style support staff to meet the demands of this new era of college football.
During his introductory press conference Wednesday morning, new Oklahoma general manager Jim Nagy spoke about how committed the Sooners are to building out the staff necessary to equip themselves for this shift.
It was rumored a few months ago that the Sooners would be interested in hiring Buffalo Bills scout Alonzo Dotson as part of their front office. While that move may or may not happen, it speaks to how much the Sooners have investigated into building out a proper staff of NFL evaluators.
Nagy also discussed the importance of positional value in guiding the future of Oklahoma's roster. Bringing in a diverse staff of multiple NFL and college football backgrounds could be the key in synergizing the adjustment of that from the NFL and college football and finding the right ingredient in building out a Playoff-caliber roster at the college level.
The network across the scouting world that Jim Nagy brings might honestly be the most important part of his hire as general manager. He has connections across the entire football landscape and his experience and notoriety will help the Sooners in building out a top-notch staff.
If Oklahoma is as serious as Nagy implied, then I'm excited to see what a future front office looks like for the Sooners. I've long believed that more teams should embrace this strategy, so it's encouraging to see how forward-thinking Oklahoma is entering this new era.
