The New England Patriots' strategy going into the 2025 NFL Draft relies on what happens with two teams at one specific position.

The Tennessee Titans, who have the first overall pick, and the New York Giants, who have the third overall pick, are both in need of quarterbacks. And there are two top prospects in Miami's Cam Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders

Many mock drafts have Ward being drafted by the Titans, which would allow New York to take Sanders. However, the Giants made an interesting roster move on Friday night, signing Jameis Winston on a two-year, $8 million deal that could be up to $16 million with incentives.

So, does this mean they are out on Aaron Rodgers, who the Giants have not been shy in pursuing?

No, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero.

They are still interested in Rodgers, but New York needed some depth with Tommy DeVito being the only quarterback on the roster. And when looking at the contract, this seems to be a backup deal.

Aaron Rodgers visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday, but he left without a deal. That means it's still possible for the Giants to land him, but it doesn't seem likely.

That would mean they still need to address it in the draft, setting the Patriots up to either get Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter, as long as they don't go in the offensive tackle direction.

The NFL Draft is in Green Bay, Wisconsin on April 24–26, 2025.
