The Chicago Bears might not be done adding to the wide receiver position in free agency as everyone continues to wonder what the Ben Johnson offense will look like.
Last week, the Bears went out and acquired Olamide Zaccheaus off the free agent market on a one-year deal. Zaccheaus offers Johnson and the offense a reliable target in the passing game, but also someone not afraid to do the dirty work.
It's a solid addition to the room behind DJ Moore and Rome Odunze and fits everything Johnson has been known to look for in his WR3s.
Even after bringing Zaccheaus in, the Bears still seem to be in the market for another player of a different skillset at the position and will be looking into another free agent.
According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Bears will be hosting a meeting with Rondale Moore later today.
Moore met with the Minnesota Vikings last week on a free agent visit but left without a deal. Now, he's set to continue making his rounds in the NFC North.
How Would Rondale Moore Fit Into The Bears Offense?
The former 49th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft was always an interesting prospect. At 5'7, 181 pounds, Moore is on the smaller scale at the position but his 4.32 40-yard-dash time confirmed his ability in the speed department.
The Arizona Cardinals decided to bank on that trait with a second-round pick, but Moore struggled to reward the team back with his production. In three seasons, Moore recorded just 135 receptions for 1,201 yards and three touchdowns.
Prior to the 2024 season, the Cardinals parted ways with Moore, sending him to the Atlanta Falcons. Moore missed the entire 2024 season due to a knee injury suffered in training camp, which is why teams are opting to bring him in for a visit before writing a contract down on paper.
Injuries have been a concern for Moore since his Purdue days, but there's no denying his explosiveness, a key trait missing from the Bears offense in 2024.
Moore has the ability to be a true highlight reel if he can stay healthy, both as a receiver, a runner out of the backfield, and trick plays. That kind of gadget-like ability could certainly entice Ben Johnson's interest when putting this new scheme together.
With his big play ability, Moore also offers some value in the return game as well. All that said, he fits the similar style player Johnson had in Detroit with Kalif Raymond.
However, the thought of signing Moore sheds more concern on the future of Tyler Scott. Scott's role in the room is based on his speed, something the team opted not to ever deploy in 2024. Perhaps there's a reasons why and maybe Johnson wants a speedster gadget of his own.
