One trend we have seen under Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman is continuously targeting legacy players and ones with NFL bloodlines. We saw the former on Monday during the Pot of Gold offer event when an offer was extended to 2027 Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian defensive line Alifeleti Tuihalamaka. He, of course, is the younger brother of Irish defensive end Junior Tuihalamaka.

His older brother was originally a member of the 2022 recruiting class for Notre Dame. Heading into the 2024 season, Tuihalamaka was a depth piece at Vyper with not many expectations about making an impact. Once Tuihalamaka got his opportunity, he took the most of it. He ended the season with 33 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and three sacks.

The younger Tuihalamaka, like his brother, is considered a four-star player in the 2027 recruiting class. According to the Rivals ranking, he is considered to be the No. 230 overall player, No. 14 defensive lineman, and the No. 26 player in the state of California in the 2027 class.

The 6-4, 260-pound defender has begun to heat up on the recruiting trail. Some of Tuihalamaka’s top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, USC, Washington, Arizona State, Louisville, and Cal. That offer list will continue to expand coming off of a strong sophomore season.

In 12 games in 2024, Tuihalamaka was able to record 67 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and six sacks. He also recorded two more quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup.

The state of California has been good to Notre Dame recently. That includes linebacker Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa who committed in the 2024 class. The Irish will hope to continue that in 2027 with Tuihalamaka.
