There have been two major flaws with Notre Dame defensive line recruiting over the last few years. Al Washington and his Fighting Irish staff have not done a good enough job to keep top talent at home, and also haven't closed on enough defensive tackle talent. Those trends need to end for this group to take the next step.

Notre Dame extended a long list of impressive 2027 offers on Monday during their Pot of Gold offer event. That included Oak Lawn (Ill.) Brother Rice defensive lineman Brayden Parks, who fits both of the aforementioned criteria above. Parks would be a massive get for the Irish in the 2027 group for some obvious, and some less obvious reasons.

Parks has a very solid recruiting ranking early on in the process. He is ranked as the No. 163 overall player, No. 11 defensive lineman, and No. 6 player in the state of Illinois in the 2027 recruiting class according to Rivals. With Chicago being right in your backyard, Notre Dame will need to keep him at home if he’s a player they really want.

The 6-3, 295-pound defensive tackle is beginning to garner more and more recruiting interest. Some of his top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, USC, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas State, Vanderbilt, Illinois, and Purdue among others.

On film, Parks is a dense interior defensive lineman who still has room to grow into his frame. You are going to blink and the Illinois standout is going to be well over 300 pounds. He is also very powerful, doing a nice job at the point of attack. Parks is also an underrated athlete with some penetration upside.
