Losing Kevin Zeitler was a big deal for the Detroit Lions. He was by far their most important free agent to retain coming into March. At the end of the day the Lions may have made a good offer, but it's hard to contend with the want to be close to family. Which is why Zeitler went to the Titans.
Since then, and really before then, to be honest, the Lions have been expected to draft an interior offensive lineman in the 2025 NFL Draft. There are some good prospects in this group, but one guy who has really been standing out lately is North Dakota State's Grey Zabel.
A source tells A to Z Sports that Zabel has been invited to Detroit for a top-30 visit for the Lions.
This is a big one for sure since top-30 visits have been something that is important to the Lions. They tend to draft these guys if they're on the board when it's their time to pick. They had top-30 visits last year with Terrion Arnold, Sione Vaki, Giovanni Manu, Nate Lynn, and Ennis Rakestraw.
Zabel is coming off a big year at NDSU where he played left tackle and allowed seven pressures and a sack. He's also played guard and right tackle for the Bisons. In four years he allowed just four sacks.
There is a connection to the Lions there as well. New Detroit tight end coach Tyler Roehl was Zabel's offensive coordinator for three seasons at North Dakota State and they won two FCS National Championships together.
At this time Zabel is expected to go around the Lions area at 28 and he has been mocked to the Lions a few times already this year. The Bears are also expected to have some interest, but probably not at the 10th pick.
