The Oklahoma Sooners have been recruiting well for a long time. Now, there have been times when the recruiting was going much better than usual, but for the most part the Sooners are usually always in the top 25 of recruiting.
The 2025 recruiting class was impressive when you factor in some things, like the fact that, despite the horrible 2024 season the Sooners had, they still landed some really good players. Michael Fasusi is obviously the headliner of the class, and the Sooners were able to keep the kid who played high school football in Texas, away from the Texas Longhorns. That has to mean something, right?
Well, it feels like the 2026 class could have something similar happen. It feels like the class could have a potential flip on its hands.
Sooners could try and flip 2026 WR Chris Stewart
Chris Stewart is a wide receiver from Shadow Creek High School in Pearland, Texas, who committed to the University of Texas on June 25, 2024. He’s a four-star recruit in the class of 2026 and picked Texas over schools like Alabama, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. At 6 feet and 175 pounds, Stewart is fast and fits well in Texas coach Steve Sarkisian’s offense.
As a sophomore in 2023, he led Shadow Creek with 35 catches for 654 yards and 10 touchdowns in 11 games. In his 2024 junior year, he had 60 catches for 922 yards and 15 touchdowns, helping his team go 9-1 in the regular season. He runs an 11.1-second 100-meter dash and is good at running routes and blocking, making him a versatile player who has good speed that could be used in the screen game at the next level.
Stewart has been committed to Texas for almost nine months, but he’s still looking at other schools. He has official visits planned for Texas, Tennessee, SMU, Arizona State, and Oklahoma in the summer of 2025. For now, he’s a key part of Texas’ 2026 class and likes the coaches, but his final choice might depend on these visits.
If Oklahoma can prove something to him, something special when he talks with them and goes on a visit, they have the potential to flip him. And, that would be one of the best things to happen to the Sooners in a long time. Imagine, flipping one of Texas' best recruits to OU, and what that would do for the program and the franchise.
Only time will tell what will happen, but it feels like OU could have some real steam here.
