For the second time in as many seasons, Kirk Cousins will be featured in the Netflix original documentary series "Quarterback."

Cousins participated in season one as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, joining Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and Marcus Mariota of the (in 2022) Atlanta Falcons. This time around, Cousins will be accompanied by the Cincinnati Bengals' Joe Burrow and Detroit Lions' Jared Goff.

This will mark the second time Falcons fans get to see their Week 1 starting QB on the hit streaming show. There are similar comparisons to be made between Cousins' 2024 season and Mariota in 2022, as both underperformed and were eventually benched for their rookie backups late in the year.

Cousins led Atlanta to a solid 6-3 start, which included a 509 passing yard, four touchdown performance in Week 5. Cousins then suddenly went freezing cold, throwing for zero TDs and eight interceptions during a four-game losing streak. That led to him being benched for rookie Michael Penix Jr., who started the final three games of the season.

It should be fascinating to see how it all unfolded behind the scenes. Many expected the Falcons to trade Cousins, or even see him retire. While they could still trade him over the next several months, Cousins did earn a $10 million roster bonus for the 2026 season by remaining on their roster past the date of March 15.

It's also important to note that Cousins has a no-trade clause in his contract, so any potential trade will need his approval. It's certainly a sticky situation for both sides. Cousins likely wants to continue being a starter in the NFL, but he'll be raking in a ton of money being a backup for Atlanta in 2025. As for the Falcons, there's really no turning back on Penix after committing to him last year.
