The Los Angeles Rams have been rumored to take a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft to groom as the successor to Matthew Stafford eventually. While I have been vocal in my beliefs that this isn't the quarterback class to do that in, former general manager and standout draft analyst Mike Mayock believes he knows the perfect fit for the Rams in this draft.

In an interview with Betway, Mayock identified Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe as a fantastic fit with the Rams under Matthew Stafford.

"Most people around the league think he’s a project, and I don’t disagree. They also think he’s got an exciting skillset, and again, I don’t disagree. I don’t think he’s going to go until the second day, and to me the best place for him to land would be the Los Angeles Rams. They have no second-round pick, but I love the fact they’ve got two thirds, and maybe they can go get this kid.You get him in LA playing behind Matthew Stafford, learning every day, similar to a Green Bay situation with an aging quarterback. What a veteran quarterback will do for a rookie is they’ll use him to help them prepare every week. Stafford would go to Milroe and say, 'I’m going to get all the blitz coverages for the last four weeks, but I want you to go back and pull everything off the tape, and if there’s anything different, I want to see you edit it and present it to me in two days.' Veteran quarterbacks look at young guys as another opportunity to help them prepare every week, but in doing so it helps the young quarterback learn. If Milroe goes to the Rams and plays behind Stafford with Sean McVay, who’s one of the best couple of play callers out there, with that offensive staff, I think he’d have a real chance to develop."

I actually agree with Mike Mayock on this a lot. I think Milroe is the only quarterback the Rams should draft, if they do draft one. In my opinion, he's the only one outside of the top two (Ward and Sanders) with tools and upside worth developing. His top-flight arm talent and athleticism are intriguing, and he has taken strides every year as a passer. Despite his concerns as a raw passer, he is still one of the best quarterbacks at hitting the middle of the field and taking advantage of the vertical plane. That's what McVay's offense thrives on, and Milroe would add another element to the offense with his mobility.

I think the Rams taking him outright at 26th overall in the first round would be excessive, but if the Rams trade out of the first round, the possibilities open up. This is the most fascinating and encouraging option at quarterback after the top two players, and would be a good swing for the fences on Day Two.
