The Baltimore Ravens took a moment to congratulate Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin on Sunday afternoon. 

Ovechkin broke Wayne Gretzky’s career record for goals on Sunday at UBS Arena, scoring his 895th career goal. He immediately celebrated, sliding along the ice before being enveloped in a hug by all of his teammates. The game was paused, allowing for a ceremony to celebrate this incredible accomplishment. 

And many have taken to social media to commend the Capitals captain, including the Ravens, who are just 36.4 miles away. 

Baltimore reposted the photo on its Instagram story, captioning it, "Congratulations, Ovi. 👏"

The team also commented on the Capitals Instagram post, writing, "HISTORIC!! Congratulations, Ovi 👏"

Ovechkin's goal came against the New York Islanders with Wayne Gretzky, who previously held the record, in attendance. Gretzky was also at the Washington's game on Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks, when Ovechkin tied the record. 

During the ceremony, Gretzky gave a brief speech saying that he "said I’d be the first one to shake your hand when you broke the record.” And he was. 

Many other famous athletes also took a moment to congratulate Ovechkin in a video the NHL posted. Among them was 23x Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps, 7x Olympic Gold Medalist Simone Biles, 5x World Series Champion Derek Jeter, 6x NBA champion Michael Jordan, WNBA Champion Elena Delle Donne, 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, SportCenter Host Scott Van Pelt, and 4x NBA Champion LeBron James. 

Plus, Steve Carell, Snoop Dogg, Dave Coulier, Vince Vaughn, Pat Sajak, and Danny DeVito also made an appearance! 

A day that Ovechkin and the sports world will never forget.
