And the Steelers need Aaron Rodgers.
Only, Pittsburgh still has the NFL Draft in front of them, while Rodgers' remaining options are seemingly down to Pittsburgh or retirement.
And according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the latter feels very unlikely…
Aaron Rodgers is unlikely to retire
“The Minnesota Vikings were very clear that Aaron Rodgers, as of right now, is not an option for them. They are moving full speed ahead with J.J. McCarthy. There are no other spots. So if Aaron Rodgers is going to play football in 2025, it is going to be for the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Rapoport said on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football. “Lot of positive momentum with Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers. It seems like that’s the most likely place, by far. He just hasn’t come out and said it yet. Meanwhile, the specter of possible retirement doesn’t seem likely.”
Maybe it's just me, but retirement never did seem likely. Whatever your opinion on Rodgers, do you really think a player with his resume is going to go out after the last two years with the New York Jets?
Does a player who wants to retire push to play for the Minnesota Vikings or meet for six hours with the Steelers in the middle of March? Does said player go throw passes with the recently acquired star WR of said team he met with if he is going to retire?
Never say never because it's Aaron Rodgers and no one knows what decisions he will make, but it never quite, and still doesn't feel like a guy who has any plans of retiring.
"If Aaron Rodgers is going to play football in 2025, it is going to be for the Pittsburgh Steelers, added Rapoport. "Would not be surprised if there was an announcement from him over the next couple weeks. It has to be theoretically before the draft, because if the Steelers don't get an answer by late April, they will likely draft a quarterback. "In fact, they may draft a quarterback anyway."
